From a fairly quiet beginning, May sure shaped up to be an action packed month. From the endurance mountain bike race at Wainuiomata (hooray, the boys came second!) to the Florence and the machine concert in Auckland, we certainly stayed busy!
This year’s supermoon. A gorgeous night for it.
You can’t enter a bike race without one!
Before the Wainui 6 hour wurldz, the boys have a quick tactics briefing.
Chef Shafer prepares his breakfast
Waiting for the race to start
any minute now…
Hamish almost finished the first lap of the race
Tom had his race-face on the whole day
And a few guys did the whole 6 hour race on BMXs
All of the boys were putting in a huge effort for this race.
Luckily no one else around at the jump – there were people everywhere and a number of near misses.
Before the next rider could start the timing chip had to be transferred to the next bike. The boys had this down to a fine art.
Blair’s turn over the wee jump in the open
And after around 5 1/2 hours, Tom volunteered to race the final lap
And pulled off the final lap in style – mega rider cred.
At the end of May Andy, Morgan and I flew to Auckland for the Florence + the Machine concert. We found this and couldn’t pass it up. No proof that it works.
It’s like the scene from Back to the Future… the Sky tower’s disappearing.
The flowers at the front of the Auckland Art Gallery
Who wouldn’t be impressed by a massive inflatable flower chandelier?
The room with a mirrored ceiling and floor. Makes for a little Vertigo, but thankfully not as much as the Yayoi Kusama room
After our very cultured morning at the Art Gallery, Morgan & I had high tea at The Langham hotel. And very civilized it was, what with their Tea Sommelier and house blends.
The savoury section of the high tea… personal favourites would be the scones that were fresh from the oven, and the beetroot and cream cheese macaron
After the savoury section, a choice of a dozen sweets. L- R Kiwifruit lamington, apple & date cheesecake, and chocolate cake with cherry liqueur.
Our last night in Auckland had one of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve seen in a long time… pity I only had my phone on me!
What Morgan and I had been waiting for all weekend
Florence + the Machine. What an amazing show!
