As well as taking our hiking boots, we took our bikes on holiday. Here’s a selection of bike-related content…
The main trip here (for me, at least) was the Lake Dunstan trail – something that’s been on my to-do list since I first saw the pictures of the cantilevered platforms around the bluffs. It was a baking hot, central Otago day and boy were we feeling it a couple of hours in. After the first hour or so, the trail became a traverse-y exposure fest. The ups were hot and slow, and the downs were a welcome respite where you could get a slight breeze. Apart from one other couple, we were the only people on ‘muscle-bikes’. E-motor or no, I think everyone was toughing it in the heat.
