Aurora!

The aurora forecast was good – it had started in Wellington just before sunrise, and all through the day there I’d seen pictures and had notifications that it was HUGE in the dark parts of the world. It just had to hold out, and I had to find a spot.

Earlier in the year, a huge solar storm arrived…. and Wellington completely clouded over. We’d made the journey out to Wainuiomata coast (along with dozens of other people), and got nothing. But this time, the space weather was good, the earth weather was good.

And I chose a spot with bright lights to the south. I’m surprised I got these pictures – the city lights were bright, the moon was even brighter. Can’t wait for the next opportunity
