While in Melbourne, we couldn’t not check out the Pharaoh exhibit at the NGV. Naturally, I took along my trusty f/2.8 lens to see how it would handle the low lighting.
I needn’t have worried.
Although the next day I came across a Reddit post of someone complaining about people with big cameras getting in the way. So maybe I should have worried about that instead. (In my defence, the post was about people pushing in and being rude. I’m pretty sure I waited patiently. I hope?)
I remember few details of the artefacts (other than Ramses II, bet he’d love that though). I did recognise a few of the gods depicted in the paintings. And of course I remember the moment Tamsyn pointed out to me that the time-distance between the oldest object and the newest was greater than the distance between the newest and today. I mean, I know the Egyptians were around for a long time, but that they could’ve stood in a museum discussing the ancient history of … themselves very much blew my mind.
