It was our second-last day in Maui, and there were still a few things on our to-do list.
Firstly, we hadn’t yet found any pineapple wine. And secondly, there was still a massive section of the island we hadn’t even gone near! So, into the car we hopped, and took, probably our favourite drive of the whole trip.
Along the way, we stopped at Ali’i Kula lavender farm. While there’s not much lavender blooming at this time of year, there is a lot of other plants – the proteas were gorgeous! We continued on to Ulupalakua (still hoping to see a paniolo. Unsuccessful) where the pineapple winery is. The wine was both the strangest, and the most delicious thing! Made with 100% Maui gold pineapples, it’s definitely worth a try.
We made it roughly half way to Hana across this narrow, undulating road before realising that… well… we were hungry and there’s not much here! We headed back to Ulupalakua, and then back to West Maui for a quick swim and pupus at the Westin. Where I FINALLY found a maitai served in a pineapple!
