Last weekend the girls and I took a lovely trip to Napier. Most of the North Island is in the grip of a drought, recalling the summers I remember from childhood. In fact, while I’ve been yearning for the long, hot summers, this one has probably been the longest and the hottest in memory! But aside from the weather – which was not the reason we headed north! – we had a simply amazing high tea, organized by my lovely friend Morgan and her mum, Jo. What a treat!
Welcome to our world
The further north we drive, the drier it gets
In conditions like this you really feel for the sheep!
The sun breaking through the first clouds central Hawkes Bay has seen for a while
This is how I remember most summers as a child, but these hills are so dry it’s like looking at sand dunes.
